We had a small group and wonderful guide. We had plenty of time in each location. Would recommend good tour
Very nice half day tour. Take a quick and free ferry across the river Ij from Amsterdam Centraal to get the small van. Learn some of the history of Holland and the original purpose of the windmills on the way. The windmill village was great, the cheese and clog farm was entertaining and the fishing village was a great place to walk around and grab some lunch.
My wife and I took this tour and had a great time. Nils was our guide and he was very cool and knowledgeable. He made it fun and the time flew by. The tour is very laid back and even bordering on disorganized at times. Some of the things on the agenda are very touristy and hokey - for example the tour of the cheese factory or the wooden shoe making demo. BUT, if you are just out for a fun relaxing time and aren't hung up on having some super formal or highly structured trip, you'll have a great time. To me, this trip is more about getting out of the city, seeing the countryside, checking out some interesting things you probably haven't seen before, having fun, and hanging out with the tour guide and other travelers. If you have a "go with the flow" attitude, like to get to know other people, and have a sense of humor, you'll love this trip.
Neil was a great tour guide and he made the trip out into the countryside super fun and memorable! Definitely recommend this tour!
It was a beautiful day, and out guide Tole made it even more beautiful. We went to see different areas with breathtaking views. A very detail explanation of the history of the mills. We stopped for the cheese making and shoe making process. And we even stopped for wine and a small surprise picnic. We really give this tour a 5 star. I wish we could choose a higher rating.
Niils was amazing!!!! It was the off season and it was just the 2 of us and he didn’t cancel. We truly had the best day, visited windmills, learned about clogs and cheese making, went to a very quaint town and had adequate time everywhere. He was so attentive to us, gave us a lot of history and it was awesome to get out of the countryside and see more of the beautiful country of Holland. I would recommend this tour for everyone!
My daughter (18 yrs) and I did this tour in early Jan 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend. We had Apostolis (from Experiencewaterland) take us and he was brilliant - very informative and very flexible with timing and our schedule. It was so worth paying more to take a "small group" tour rather than be on the cheaper group large bus tours. We learned so much about Amsterdam, the surrounding areas and all the places we visited. Visiting Zaanse Schans with a guide was so much better than doing it ourselves as the information Tol told us made it more meaningful. The Clogs and Cheese shop was fun and the visit to the little fishing villages was beautiful. As we were the only ones on the tour ( as others did not show up and we were the only booking), Tol happily adjusted his schedule to what we would like to see. As well as driving through some quaint country towns in Northern Holland, we also visited Marken - a lovely little village/ island with pretty wooden green houses and had lunch in a waterfront restaurant where the owner was dressed in the traditional clothing. It was an memorable day and I highly recommend this tour. Not to be missed.
Awesome experience. Niels is a fun and friendly guide. Suggest schnapps in the vehicle at winter time and maybe 15mins more at each location to look and see a little longer. Thank you both for your kind assistance and support in getting me to the pick up location.
It was a very cold day but tour guide did not disappoint (Niels?) Small group of 8. Very informative and entertaining...lots of laughter!! Highly recommend this tour it was best one we have been on.
We had an awesome day with Nils! The meeting point extremely easy to find and the ride to each stop was comfortable and smooth. The Windmills are fascinating and even though we had a very foggy day, so worth seeing if you have the time. The clogs/cheese stop was fun and Volendam was beautiful - we enjoyed our walk around the 'maze' before we got to the (very touristy) main street. The highlight for everyone in our group was absolutely the final stop in a small town where we had a lovely stroll and a tasting of Dutch spirits. Crowds were really not bad in November and being in a small group is the way to go!
