Easy to book, punctual and fairly comfortable ride (don't expect luxury, it was a small 6-seater bus, but good enough for the 4 hour plus journey), communicative (we chatted with Wayan through whatsapp and he answered our questions promptly before the trip and he also checked in with us after the trip). Our guide, tri, was our strict and super fit Hike Mama - she took 4 of us up to the summit - we were the first to reach, and watched the sun rise over hot tea, bread and 200ºC crater-steamed eggs. She also generously gave us a tour down the other side of the volcano, instead of going back the same way. All in all, amazing, breathtaking views - the kind of beauty that makes you step back and reassess your entire world. Highly recommended.
The tour was absolutely wonderful. The trek was moderately difficult. Trek up was about 2 hours including 3 short breaks. Going down was about 1.5 hours. Everyone got a flashlight to guide the walk up. There were two guides on our trip which was good. One guide stayed with the group that walked a bit faster and the other guide with the other group. This worked out quite well. The guide was very considerate and made sure everyone in the group stayed together. He held your hand on more difficult terrain just to make sure all were safe. The sunrise itself was spectacular! Words can't explain. A bonus was the wild monkeys at the top of the mountain (albeit they wanted/stole food). Some things to note: 1) restroom options were extremely limited and needed to pay to use - I advise bringing toilet paper if possible 2) water and small breakfast were included in the tour 3) proper shoes is essential. My sneakers were not great and wished I had better shoes. I slipped a few times. Overall, this trip was fantastic and I highly recommend it.
A wonderful tour guide, Tri and beautiful weather to make for a memorable trek. This is my second time doing the trek, and this company was fantastic! Would definitely recommend
Call time was quite early with only 2 hours of sleep....Good trek! Sadly it was quite cloudy when we get to the summit. Did enjoy it! Tour guide was good. You need to have a good pair of trekking shoes to get up there.path can get really slippery.
The beautiful view was extremely worth the strenuous hike. The hike is very slippery going down due to all of the loose rocks so make sure you have good shoes! However I wish we were able to do this hike without a tour guide because, despite being very sweet, she was only there to accompany us on the hike. I wish she could have given us more information about Mt Batur. The breakfast before hiking was a banana crepe and then hard boiled eggs with sliced bread at the top of the hike. I wouldn't want to spend this much on tour that didn't provide much more than if we were able to have done this by ourselves.
This was a horrible experience in all counts. When this company sees you, they don’t see a person, they only see dollar signs.
It was torrential downpour on the mountain with thunder and lightening. They kept saying it was “safe” when it absolutely was not. I refused to hike and they charged me more money than the actual tour itself to take me back to my hotel. I wouldn’t have even cared to pay a fee for the extra trip but it should have cost 200,000 IDR not 550,000.
They are absolute scam artists. Also the facility they take you to eat is extremely unsanitary. The bathrooms are FILTHY and the food is fly ridden.
Also on the drive to the mountain, the driver was texting and spewing the entire way and nearly ran over countless homeless dogs. It was heartbreaking and terrifying.
Do yourself a favor and have a driver take you to the mountain where you will get a guide. The guides are still not great and known as the “mountain mafia” but it’s much better and cheaper than booking through this company.
As you can see, anyone with even a moderate level of fitness will thoroughly enjoy hike to the top of Mount Batur. Though you may have to bundle up and wake up at the same time you would normally be going to sleep, the spectacular sunrise view waiting for you at the top makes it well worth it. We dare you to find a more rewarding hike in Bali than Mount Batur!
