After pickup at your hotel or the Vaitape pier, meet your captain and receive a short safety briefing and trip outline. Then board your boat, a 17-foot (5.2-meter) Boston Whaler Montauk, equipped with a sun shade.
Get comfortable on the quick and stable boat, which includes ample room for gear. As you cruise through the turquoise waters of Bora Bora, your captain shares in-depth knowledge of these clear tropical waters and their finned inhabitants. You’ll also learn about French Polynesian culture and its deep connection to the ocean.
Both tours are available for beginning or experienced anglers. It’s up to you whether you’d like to release, keep or share your catch, which is stored on ice until you return to shore. You can check with your hotel to find out if the kitchen is able to prepare a meal for you with your catch. Your 4-hour tour ends with return to your hotel after a memorable fishing trip in Bora Bora.
Your expert captain provides light tackle well-suited for the calmer waters of the Bora Bora lagoon. Troll for jacks, rainbow runner, bluefin trevally, bigeye trevally, small barracuda, lagoon bonito, needle fish, snapper and grouper. If you like, your captain can take you close to the barrier reef, where you can try spinning or popping. If you have your own fly-fishing gear with you, your captain can take you to good fly-fishing spots inside the lagoon. Some bonefish live around Bora Bora; however, the coral makes them difficult to catch. At times, big jacks that weigh more than 30 pounds (14 kg) can make a surprise appearance, but generally fish sizes vary from a half pound (250 grams) to 10 pounds (5 kg). This small-group lagoon fishing tour takes a maximum of four people.

My father and I went out for a hal-day of deep sea fishing, and it was super fun. We were able to catch a nice pair of yellow fin tuna. The captain knew just where to go and knew a lot about the area.
We fished with George and Robert in the lagoon around Bora Bora in a 17' Boston Whaler. The boat had a cover that allowed for shade when we wanted it. We trolled using small squid artificial lures. We caught 4 different types of fish, probably caught 7 fish and enjoyed the guides. The fish were small, but I understand that you need to go outside the barrier reef to catch bigger fish. The weather was nice, but we just wanted to enjoy smaller surf and see the island while fishing. Next time we will go outside the reef.
George and Robert took us to a place where another guide friend they knew was feeding a stingray with man and his wife. There were about 30 small blacktip Sharks swimming around in the shallow water and I got some great underwater shots with my GoPro on a GoPro stick. If you want to catch big fish, go outside the reef. I would use these guides again.
It was wonderful! Bob did a great job brining us around the island where the fish were. My husband got two fish and was really happy with the experience.
We had a wonderful time on the Lagoon fishing trip. We caught 4 fish and then Bob, our captain, jumped from the boat with a speargun and got 3 more. It was awesome. In addition to the great fishing, we were able to sightsee as well. We saw sharks and lots of rays. The resort cooked up our fish for the next couple nights. Delicious!
We chose the lagoon fishing for the calmer waters. The fishing was ok as it wasn't the best time of year. Our guide Bob was great and took us around the entire island, what a great way to see the island. We ended it up with 8 nice size Trevally Jacks. After all, it is fishing and not catching. Fishermen understand that. Thank you for an amazing outing. We would definitely do this again!
Awesome time - our guide was friendly, knowledgable, and made sure we enjoyed our excursion thoroughly!
Small boat but we were able to catch 3 nice size fish, a mahi mahi, a tuna and a baracuda I think. My wife got a lil sick on the small boat. We were able to give most of the fish to a local and his family after they cleaned the fish for us.
Great tour. A shame the weather wasn't great making it hard to catch anything.
A bit more info on the area and what was going on while setting up etc would have been good.
Loved the swim in the lagoon with black tip reef sharks. A shame the boat wasn't prepared with snorkels just in case. A great back up if no fish are biting.
Disappointed that we did not each have a fishing pole. Beautiful day. Pleasant host.
The boat that showed up for a Deep Sea Fishing tour was a small single engine boat with a sunshade. It was not a boat anyone would want to take out past the reef, especially on a windy day. The swells were 10-12 feet high, and there were no life jackets in sight. The small boat was tossed around like piece of driftwood. After a short frightening interval, the captain suggested we go back to the lagoon. There were 2 fishing rods that had no reels, we were told to wrap the fishing line with our fingers. We caught 3 small fish, 2 of which we kept and had prepared at the restaurant at our hotel for lunch. It was not a professional tour, and I should have waited till I got to Bora Bora to hire a boat that was suitable for deep sea fishing. I think the boat captain had no intention of deep sea fishing and was not prepared to do so. Meanwhile, others in our party rented a suitable boat during the week we were there and caught a 200 lb marlin.
