Stop At: Chichen Itza Mexico
Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive.
Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population.
Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases.
Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.
Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

Frank was an amazing tour guide, making our time there extra special. So much history and beauty! I learned a lot, soaked up the sun and beauty, and left feeling inspired. Thanks to Frank and Alfredo (our driver), we had a magical time. Loved it!!!
We were picked up from our hotel location on time. Marco was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our driver also drove us safely to and from Chichen Itza.
Frank is very cool tour guide with a lot if knowledge in this field of Mayan history. We really enjoyed the tour and it's very with the pain of getting up that early
Had an absolutelu wonderful visit to Chitzen Itza with Marco and Alfredo. Even though the departure time is really early (Cancun hotel zone about 5.30 am), it was totally worth it. We arrived there before the crowds and had a really nice and informative tour around the area with Marco the guide, whose knowledge about was incredible. I really recommend this particular tour, Marco is the best guide ever!
Frank was a great guide, learned much about the true Mayan culture
Frank was patient, knowledgeable.
Mariio our driver was good as well
Marco was amazing, very friendly and very entertaining. Perfect english so you won't have trouble following him.
This was a great tour! Definitely worth it to get up early and beat the crowds. We were the first bus there and the lot was jammed full when we left around noon. Marco was extraordinary!! So knowledgeable. He is married to a Mayan so cares about the culture plus he did his dissertation on this site. We have visited Mayan sites in two other countries but nowhere near the kind of tour. It’s as truly extraordainary. It’s a long drive to get there but well worth it!
It's a long trip out to the site but going early and beating the crowds and the heat is a tremendous advantage. The guide was very knowledgable and explained a lot. It would have been better if he kept us moving however as people seem to stop listening after 15-20 minutes of explanation. More and shorter stops would be better. Overall though it is excellent and you get free time to explore as well.
This tour was great for a big part du to our guide, Frank. He told us a lot of facts regarding the Mayas, the way they live and why they build Chichen Itza the way it is. The early access gives you a head start before all the other groups arrive. Although the site is very large and never seemed crowded to me.
Unfortunately, a royal screw-up on the part of Viator. We had signed up for the Early Access to Chichen Itza and for reasons unknown we were put on a different tour (Chichen Itza Plus) that was much longer than what we had signed up for. Although the guides and the driver were excellent, this mishap by Viator led us to miss a function that we were scheduled to attend at 6 PM.
Gain essential insights into Mexico’s past on a visit to Chichen Itza with a private archaeologist. Miss the crowds, heat (98°F) and humidity (65%), by visiting in the early morning, and see parts of the site that traditional tours don’t visit. With meeting point from Cancun, experience the majesty of the entire Chichen Itza site and receive personalized attention from your professionally certified guide.
