Stop At: The Paris Catacombs, 1 Avenue du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, 75014 Paris France
Why wait in a long line to see less of the Catacombs? Your guide, an English-speaking local expert, will lead your group straight past the lines and down into the 200-mile labyrinth of bone-lined galleries and former quarry tunnels. An inscription at the entrance reads “Arrête! C’est ici l’empire de la mort”, or “Stop! Here lies the empire of death”. In this eerie empire, you’ll encounter the remains of such dignitaries as Rabelais and Robespierre, among more than 6 million other former Parisians.
While individual ticket holders must remain on the public routes, your guide will lead you off the well-traveled path. As well as other significant remains, like the hidden Gilbert’s Tomb, here you’ll find monuments to those who made their living in the empire of death. In the Port Mahon Gallery, you’ll see sculptures that an 18th-century quarry worker spent five years chiseling secretly from the tunnel walls, before being crushed in a cave-in. You’ll see the Quarryman’s Footbath and the Sepulchral Lamp, whose constant flame reassured the living that there was enough air in the tunnels.
As you wind your way around the Catacombs, you’ll hear all about the history of this parallel city – and the many legends surrounding it. Once you’ve seen what lies just 65 feet below the city, your view of Paris will be forever changed.

Julia was a wonderful guide for the Catacombs. We were extremely impressed with her knowledge of not only the Catacombs but French history. She was also really funny. Thanks Julia we had a great time!
Leye was a fantastic guide! Great knowledge and stories. I’m very glad we booked the VIP experience since most of our favorite Moments were seeing areas we would not have been able to see on the regular tour. I would definitely recommend this tour to people wanting to experience the catacombs.
Our tour guide,Charlie, who we had 03MAR2020 at 16:30 made the whole tour for us! The catacombs are definitely something to see but we just hope you too can have someone that is so Enthusiastic and knowledgeable as he was.
Our experience was very good 👍,our guide vic's (for short) she was quite informative and had a funny side to . It's not just about bones down there !!!! It was one of the things I wanted to do in Paris and it didn't disappoint. Would recommend don't forget see if you can get the guide we had
Julia our tour guide was great! The extra VIP access highly recommended Skip the line access and tour guide explaining things along the way saved time
WOW! this was so much more than we expected. Having Vic as our guide take us through the catacombs, we got to see some areas that the public didn’t. The historical information she gave us was very informative and she certainly knew her stuff answering all questions that were asked by our group.
We weren’t sure what to expect but it was well worth taking the tour.
My youngest daughter (10) requested this tour. I am highly claustrophobic and my oldest daughter (12) doesn’t like tight spaces.... this tour was fantastic! We loved having the ghost stories, history and so much knowledge from Viv. Her continuous stories and history helped us to forget about the underground aspect. I was also pleasantly surprised at how large the tunnels were.
Private tour with about 10 people was excellent. Our tour guide was great and we did get to see two different restricted areas that main tourists do not get to see. Overall, well worth the cost!
Very cool and something everyone should at least check out when visiting the beautiful awesome city of Paris.
Fascinating. Our guide, Leye, is a great storyteller, very engaging and energetic. He kept us moving along without hurrying us. It would have been a lot less interesting without him. It's a little creepy down there, but not really because it's so well maintained.
Venture below the avenues and Metro tunnels of Paris and into the Catacombs, whose population of skeletons far outnumbers the living city above. This group tour includes Skip-the-Line Entry and lets you access parts of the Catacombs that are off-limits to individual visitors, so you get more out of your experience. Exclusive sights include the Sacellum Crypt, where bones were blessed before beginning their rest in the tunnels.
