I did not know much about the history of this region during WW2 but felt like I left with a great understanding of the war and the causes leading up to the British surrender.
Our guide was fantastic, speaking clearly and with enthusiasm. There are several short videos in different rooms to also give you some visuals from the time.
If you're a history fan, or just want to learn more about the history that helped shape Singapore, this is a great tour!
This short 75 minute tour demonstrated and clarified the events that led up to the fall of Singapore during WW2. The Battlebox tour took us underground into a laberynth of rooms that was the British headquarters/ war command centre. This is a small group tour and our guide Joanna was informative. A great experience.
We took two of our grandkids to this exhibit and they were totally absorbed - very well curated and presented - very informative - our guide was excellent.
This tour is well worth doing. Our guide, Kelysha, did a great job. She is a Student , studying History, and it showed. The area, Fort Canning Park, has several attractions and is a most pleasant place to wander.
thought I knew everything about WW2, but my eyes were certainly opened in regard to this tour. The guide once again was really knowledgeable and explained to us the step by step developments which led to the capitulation of Singapore.
It was amazing. Our guide Sha was super good and very kind.
Was very interesting to learn more about the history of World War 2 and the surrender of Singapore. It was put in more perspective when we visited the Bridge on the River Kwai in Thailand which was built by the prisoners from Singapore. The tour was most informative and was highlighted by audio video movies . The dummies used to stage the re-enactments were very life like -- almost real. The work on the bunker is a work in progress but the tour was very well done. Well worth the time and money!
Excellent tour especially if you're a military history nut like I am. WW2 expert so this was really good. Biggest British defeat in history.
Sorry for Percival he had no chance with lack of support, Spitfires were busy fighting the blitz no time for poor Singapore. I've been to Kanchanaburi seen what happened to the allied prisoners taken here, no sympathy from me.
All in all a very worthwhile tour worth your time and effort. You're not allowed to take photo's so sorry can't show any.
Battlebox is one for the 2nd world war buffs. My husband loved it.
Interesting historical tour of what happened in Singapore in World War II.
The tour also explains why the large Fort Canning Park exists in the middle of Singapore.
The Battlebox is a former British underground command centre in Fort Canning Hill. Built in the 1930s, it was part of the headquarters for Malaya Command, the army that defended Singapore during WWII. On 15 February 1942, inside the bunker, Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival made the momentous decision to surrender Singapore to the Japanese.
Today, Singapore History Consultants offers guided tours through the Battlebox, unveiling the true causes of the largest capitulation in British military history. You will learn how the Battlebox functioned during the war during your hour-long tour.
