For example, we wouldn't go to the Church on Spilled Blood on this walk.

We cross this meandering canal several times during the walk, weaving through historical neighbourhoods of old St Petersburg. Many sites from Dostoyevsky's novels are in this area of St Petersburg.

One of the main squares of St Petersburg, lots of history, monumental views all around. Bronze Horseman monument, Imperial Senate and Synod buildings, St Isaac's Cathedral.

Hay Market is the biggest and maddest of the old city markets, and the cheapest too. We sometimes wonder in - ask your guide. A great place to study everyday life of St Petersburg and sample seasonal fruit.

Hay Square (English translation of the name) is a huge bustling square, historically a centre of the universe of the lower classes of St Petersburg residents. A top location from Crime and Punishment; a great spot to observe everyday life, in many aspects unchanged since the times of Dostoyevsky.
