- Snow Monkeys in warmer seasons: The snow starts to melt by March and the snow monkeys may not bathe as often as they did in the winter to keep warm. When it is warm and the sun is out, the monkeys tend to be more active and move around the area, grooming themselves. While winter is not the only time to see snow monkeys, please note that they are wild animals and it is difficult to predict their behavior. You can still visit the Snow Monkey Park, but seeing the monkeys and watching them bathe is not always guaranteed.

To return to Nagano Station, the ryokan can take guests to Yudanaka Station and they can transfer to Nagano Station.
- This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate

Description:

Nagano City is well-known for hosting the 1998 Winter Olympic Games and while some of the former Olympic facilities can still be viewed in Nagano, the city has since evolved as a temple town revolving around the famous Zenkoji Temple, and is most visited during the Spring Season (for cherry blossoms), the Fall Season (for autumn foliage) and the Winter Season (for winter activities and for seeing the snow monkeys).
On this tour, spend two days in Nagano exploring the city and enjoying what this quaint town has to offer. Your English-speaking tour guide will pick you up with a private vehicle at Nagano Train Station by 9:30 AM. On the route to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscape of the Chikuma River, where you may also try local miso soup and see how local people eat in the area.
Before arriving at the entrance of the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, enjoy a 30 - 40 minute leisurely stroll through the forest path, where the guide will provide you with interesting facts about the snow monkeys and the park along the way. Once you enter the park, have some hot tea while observing the snow monkeys, many of which are bathing in the hot springs (onsen) to keep warm, especially during the cool months of autumn and winter. After an exciting morning at the park, visit Obuse Town (which is most well-known for being the home town of Japan's most famous artist and creator of the "Great Wave", Hokusai Katsushika), enjoy lunch in the area before walking around to explore the shops and try sake tasting.
After a day at Obuse Town, head to Zenko-ji Temple (one of the most important and popular temples in Japan). Learn about the temple and how the locals pray for good fortune before heading to your traditional Japanese hotel (ryokan) for the night. Just before your scrumptious traditional Japanese multi-course (kaiseki) dinner at the hotel, bid farewell to your tour guide (as you will have a free day to explore without the tour guide on the second day).
Relax in a traditional onsen (hot spring) in the area of your hotel just before heading to bed and getting a good night's sleep. In the morning, enjoy a traditional Japanese breakfast before checking out of your hotel and spend your free day (without the tour guide) further exploring the city or snowboarding/ skiing (highly recommended) in one of the nearby resorts. For those who would like to explore neighboring areas such as Matsumoto Castle, Kamikochi, Hakuba, or other neighboring areas with a tour guide and private vehicle, the option is available as an add-on (additional cost) at booking.

Everything about the day was fantastic! Fan was so nice and friendly, it was easy to have casual conversations with her. At the same time, she also gave the wife and I space as we walked around to take in the sights. Fan was so helpful in answering questions and helping us with the communication barrier at the local stops. Overall, it was a fantastic time and one of the many wonderful experiences from Japan my wife and I will remember!

The private tour experience was fantastic, and Ilhom was a gracious and knowledgeable tour guide. We visited all of the locations listed in the description of the tour, and Ilhom explained many facts about each location and waited patiently if we wanted to go off-script and take extra pictures or see something along the way. He brought us to a local ice cream shop that was one of his personal favorites - it was great! We visited neat little stops and snack places, and at the major sites such as the Snow Monkey mountain, our guide patiently waited as we took all of the time we wanted to our heart's desire. This was extremely important, as it was our primary purpose for the tour, and not once did we feel any rush. We truly got everything we wanted out of that visit. The one night at the Ryokan was an excellent experience, too - highly rated if you have not experienced a Ryokan before. The hosts were extremely gracious and the dinner/breakfast was exceptional. Thanks for a great trip!

The tour guide was amazing and chilled. First day we visited Zenkoji Temple, Obuse townvery peaceful and beautiful town, sake and wine tasting, visited as park with full of cherry blossoms with lake and Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. Later he dropped us at Ryokan. The hot spring bath and the dinner was amazing. The Ryokan host was a sweet lady. Second day we had opted for Matsumoto castle most beautiful with cherry blossoms with all its glory and Wasabi farm visit. All the snow covered mountains and wasabi farm with fresh river water flowing with cherry blossoms in full bloom , felt like heaven on earth. The tour guide also made a stop at strawberry picking place on request and we had the best strawberries of my life. Overall a very pleasant experience in the most beautiful town in Japan which is not too crowded with tourist and will be remembered in our hearts for long times. Thank you for organizing such beautiful pleasant and peaceful trip : lots of love :
