A grid of broad roads, landscaped medians, superblocks, towers, and separated land uses transformed Abu Dhabi's central island during rapid twentieth-century growth.
The plan explains both the city's clarity from a vehicle and its uneven walkability on foot. Corniche paths and selected districts support comfortable walking, while wide junctions and heat interrupt other routes. Later island developments created specialized clusters for culture, finance, housing, and entertainment. Plan trips around those clusters instead of expecting one continuous centre.
