Why go
Use Aix's fountains as a thread through streets that are easy to overlook when moving straight between museums. The Fontaine de la Rotonde establishes the grand scale; the reused Roman column at the Fontaine des Augustins and lion heads at the Fontaine des Tanneurs reward closer attention. Continue towards the cathedral quarter's wall fountain, then turn through Place des Prêcheurs towards the Cézanne portrait at the Bagniers. The optional Pascal detour adds dancers and a tambourine player. Extend south to the Quatre Dauphins if you still want more stone carving. This outdoor route suits a flexible day of looking, photography and breaks, with no museum visit setting the pace.
