Why go
The walk matters as much as the lighthouse. Leaving Nueva Tabarca behind exposes the island’s open scale, low vegetation and relationship with the sea. The 19th-century landmark gives the route a clear destination on the quieter eastern half, reached entirely on foot.
What to look for
- The lighthouse’s square form stands alone against the low island horizon.
- The approach crosses open countryside with long views back towards the settlement.
- The surrounding landscape makes Tabarca’s small size and maritime exposure easy to read.
Useful to know
- Allow 60 to 90 minutes for the return walk from the settlement.
- Treat the lighthouse as an exterior landmark; routine interior access is not established.
- Walk in daylight and carry water, sun protection and a layer for wind.
