Amalfi's Setting and Seasons
Amalfi lies on the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula, where a narrow coastal town meets steep slopes. Its Mediterranean climate affects the feel of town walks year round.
Why go
The town's position makes a map more useful than distance alone: moving away from the waterfront can mean climbing quickly into the valley. Summers are generally sunny and warm, while winters are milder and wetter. Use that contrast when deciding whether to focus on open air walking or the cathedral and other sheltered stops.
Useful to know
Plan uphill streets for a cooler part of a warm day.
On a wet day, prioritize the town centre and sheltered interiors over longer hillside walks.
