Antwerpen-Centraal
Antwerp’s main station is an architectural stop in its own right, with a domed entrance hall and vast iron-and-glass train shed. Its layered platforms reveal a later transformation into a through station.
Even without a train to catch, the station gives you two memorable views of railway architecture: the stone-clad hall and the long glass-roofed shed. The platforms below add a second story, showing how the old terminus was adapted for trains passing beneath the city.
What to look for
The main hall rises beneath a monumental dome.
The iron-and-glass train shed frames the historic upper platforms.
Openings between levels let you see the modern platforms below.
Useful to know
Enter through the main hall before going to the platforms; the approach reveals the station’s original design.
If you are changing trains, allow extra time to move between the upper and lower levels.
