From the Aruba World / Areas

Ayo Rock Formations

Ayo is an inland cluster of large boulders near Ayo village. Go for the rock landscape and Indigenous markings, with narrow passages that make the walk more involved than a roadside stop.

Ayo Rock Formations

Why go

The scale of the boulders and the paths between them offer a close look at Aruba’s rocky interior. Rock markings associated with Indigenous inhabitants add a human layer to the landscape. Give the formations time on foot, and keep Ayo distinct from Casibari, another boulder site described in some older accounts.

What to look for

  • Large boulders rise from Aruba’s dry interior near Ayo village.
  • Paths and steps thread between the rocks.
  • Indigenous rock markings add historical context to the site.

Useful to know

  • Wear shoes suited to steps and narrow rocky passages.
  • Visit Ayo as its own stop; Casibari is a separate formation area.
