Choosing Aruba’s coasts and interior
Aruba’s west and south shores are generally more sheltered for beach time. The north and east face rougher water, while low hills break up the dry interior.
The coast you choose changes the day. Beaches such as Eagle Beach and Baby Beach fit a water-focused outing; the exposed side is better approached for views and land-based exploration. Hooiberg and Mount Jamanota give the otherwise low island a different skyline, and the former Natural Bridge site shows how the surf shapes limestone.
What to look for
The western and southern beaches sit on the more sheltered side of the island.
Hooiberg and Mount Jamanota punctuate the arid inland landscape.
The original Natural Bridge on the north coast collapsed in 2005.
Useful to know
Check sea conditions before entering the water, especially on the exposed north and east coasts.
Pair an inland viewpoint with a coastal stop to see the landscape contrast.
