Treasure of the Basilica of St. Francis and the Perkins Collection
The Basilica Treasury in the Papal Palace gathers medieval works and the Perkins Collection. It rewards visitors who want to look beyond the basilica’s frescoes into objects preserved by the Franciscan complex.
Enter from the Lower Basilica’s apse to see a curated collection inside Palazzo Papale, rather than another worship space. Paintings, sculpture, goldwork, vestments and books record gifts to the Franciscan community, while the Perkins works widen the art story. The objects give a closer view of patronage that the basilica’s large fresco cycles cannot supply.
