Temple Ruins, Plaka and Lycabettus

Begin at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, cross Plaka and the Roman Agora, then choose a late climb to Mount Lycabettus for the city panorama.

Temple Ruins, Plaka and Lycabettus

Why go

This route suits travelers who want ancient architecture and neighborhood walking with a demanding viewpoint finish. Start among the surviving columns of the Olympieion, then move through Plaka toward the Tower of the Winds. The compact lanes give a close-scale contrast before the day opens out again on Mount Lycabettus. The temple, Plaka and Roman Agora form the essential core. Make Lycabettus optional when heat, haze or accumulated climbing would reduce the payoff.

Useful to know

  • Keep the essential stops and drop optional ones when pace, weather or queues change.
