Getting Around Atlanta by Car
A car can help you reach Atlanta neighborhoods beyond the MARTA rail network, but weekday commute traffic and parking decisions can make short cross-town trips slow.
Why go
Atlanta's destinations are spread across Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and neighborhoods farther from the rail lines. Driving gives you more flexibility when a day crosses several of those areas. Plan each cluster of stops together, though: the distance on a map can hide a slow trip through traffic, especially on weekday commutes.
Useful to know
Group stops by neighborhood before driving across the city; check the route and traffic close to departure.
If your destination is near MARTA rail, compare that trip with the time needed to drive and park.
Check parking options at your destination before setting out, particularly in Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead.
