How Atlanta Fits Together
Atlanta is Georgia's capital and a major transport and business center, but a visitor experiences it through several separated districts rather than one compact core.
The city's civic center is Downtown, where the Georgia State Capitol and City Hall give government a visible address. Midtown extends the urban spine north with cultural institutions and Piedmont Park. Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport lies south of Downtown, so arrival and sightseeing are separate parts of the trip. This layout explains why a district-based plan works better than a single long walk.
Useful to know
Check current MARTA connections when moving between the airport and central districts.
Plan Downtown and Midtown as separate clusters unless you have time for a longer transfer.
