Barton Springs Pool
Barton Springs offers a spring-fed swim within Zilker Park, with broad water and grassy banks; the cool water is central to the experience even in warm weather.
The three-acre pool occupies the channel of Barton Creek, making the setting feel connected to the spring landscape rather than a standard swimming complex. Its grassy slopes give companions somewhere to pause between swims, and the park location lets swimming become part of a broader outdoor outing.
What to look for
Underground springs supply the pool within Barton Creek's channel.
Grassy slopes surround the swimming area.
The city enlarged the swimming area during the 1920s after Zilker's 1918 gift of the property.
Useful to know
Combine a swim with time in Zilker Park, keeping the water stop distinct from the rest of the park visit.
Check pool conditions after heavy rain before setting out specifically to swim.
