French Legation State Historic Site
Explore a house built for a French diplomatic representative during the Republic of Texas. The historic rooms and grounds provide a small-scale East Austin history visit.
The legation makes Texas’s brief period as an independent republic visible through a surviving domestic building. Its diplomatic origin distinguishes it from the neighboring household museums and from the Capitol’s later state-government story. Allow time for the grounds as well as the house, and notice the site’s relationship to the surrounding neighborhood.
