Paramount Theatre
The Paramount Theatre is a Congress Avenue landmark from Austin’s vaudeville era. Its 1915 Classical Revival building adds theatrical history to a downtown architecture walk.
Designed by John Eberson, the theater began as the Majestic and went on to host vaudeville, musicals, plays and films. That range explains its place in Austin’s entertainment history. The 1966 Batman premiere is one striking example of its cinema role; National Register recognition followed in 1976.
What to look for
The Classical Revival building dates to 1915.
