K'gari
K'gari is a large sand island off Queensland's Fraser Coast, with rainforest, dunes, wetlands and coastal heath. Think of it as a landscape to explore in parts, rather than one beach stop.

The island's striking contrast is vegetation growing on sand. Rainforest, eucalyptus woodland, mangroves and peat swamps occupy different conditions across the island. Its World Heritage status reflects more than scenery: the sand system and its ecosystems are the reason to allow time for distinct landscapes instead of aiming for a single photograph.
What to look for
Rainforest and eucalyptus woodland rooted in the island's sand
Mangroves, peat swamps and coastal heath in different parts of K'gari
Dunes shaped by a long accumulation of coastal sand
Useful to know
Treat K'gari as an island area and select specific sites before planning a visit.
Check current island access and conditions with the park authority before travelling.
