Why go

Choosing where to sleep affects how much you need to carry and plan. A caravan park may offer facilities, while national park sites can require more self-sufficiency. Hostels and country pubs offer different room options. Comparing them helps you choose an overnight stop that fits your route and the facilities you need.

The full story

Caravan parks are a practical starting point for a camping trip: many have tent sites with toilets and showers, while some add kitchens, laundry facilities, cabins or family amenities. Compare the facilities at the particular park instead of assuming they are included everywhere. Hostels can work well when a shared kitchen matters more than a private room. In smaller towns, a pub may offer accommodation; check whether the room has its own bathroom. National park camping is a different choice. Sites may have limited facilities, so plan for greater self-sufficiency and read the park's current booking, access and fire information before you go. A scenic beach, roadside rest area or patch of forest is not automatically a permitted campsite. Check the land manager's rules for the specific location, including overnight parking, pets and fires. For popular holiday periods and remote routes, settle the overnight stop before relying on it. Distances between towns can make an unplanned search for a bed or legal campsite an awkward end to the day.
