How Barbados fits together

Barbados lies east of the main Lesser Antilles chain, with Bridgetown on the southwest side and higher ground inland. Its compact shape still holds contrasting coasts and landscapes.

How Barbados fits together

Why go

A map explains several useful travel choices. Bridgetown is the main city; Holetown and Speightstown lie along the west, while Oistins is on the south coast. Inland, the land rises toward Mount Hillaby and the Scotland District. The exposed Atlantic side feels different from the west coast, so a beach plan should account for which shore it uses. Pair a coast with a nearby town or inland stop rather than treating the whole island as one continuous waterfront.

What to look for

  • Mount Hillaby marks the high ground near the Scotland District.
  • Bridgetown, Holetown, Oistins and Speightstown anchor different parts of the island.
  • The Atlantic east coast contrasts with the more sheltered west.
