Chase Vault

See the empty Chase Vault in Christ Church Parish Church’s churchyard and hear the local moving-coffins story as folklore. The physical vault makes a brief, unusual history stop.

Why go

The Chase Vault is a small, specific stop within the Christ Church churchyard. The tale says coffins were found displaced after the sealed tomb was reopened in the nineteenth century; it is a local legend rather than proof of a supernatural event. The vault now stands empty. Find the crypt in the grounds and read the story alongside the surrounding burial landscape. Respect worship, funerals and any boundaries, and ask locally if access to the vault is unclear.

What to look for

  • The vacant stone crypt.
  • The churchyard setting around it.

Useful to know

  • Ask on site about access and avoid disturbing services or funerals.
