Why go
From the observation deck, trace the city between Sagrada Família, the street grid and the sea. At ground level, the tower’s rounded shape and changing façade offer a striking contrast with the nearby park and regular Eixample blocks. The elevated view helps place the eastern districts in context.
What to look for
- The rounded tower rises beside Plaça de les Glòries.
- The observation deck frames Sagrada Família and the sea.
- The façade has a layered glass-and-colour effect.
The full story
Architect Jean Nouvel designed the tower with b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos at the eastern end of Avinguda Diagonal, close to Plaça de les Glòries. It opened in the early twenty-first century as an office tower and became one of the area’s strongest visual markers. The rounded profile and layered façade make it look unlike the older modernista buildings elsewhere in Barcelona. Today the Mirador Torre Glòries gives visitors a view from above as well as an exhibition component called Hipermirador Barcelona. This changes the tower from an exterior skyline sight into a place for orientation. From the observation deck, the city’s grid, Sagrada Família and Mediterranean edge can be read together. The Cloud Cities Barcelona installation is a separate optional element, so check what your chosen ticket covers. The tower works especially well with a walk through the renewed Glòries park below.
