Pinacoteca metropolitana di Bari
Head to this waterfront painting gallery for Apulian art alongside Venetian, Neapolitan and later Italian works. It offers a collection-led visit on the fourth floor of the Palazzo della Provincia.
The gallery shows how art in Puglia connects with other Italian centres. Paintings by Corrado Giaquinto, for whom the museum is named, sit within a collection spanning medieval works and later painting. The Grieco collection broadens the visit into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Founded in 1928, the gallery moved to this waterfront palace in 1936.
What to look for
Tintoretto’s Saint Roch and the Plague Victims links the collection to Venetian painting.
Works by Corrado Giaquinto give a focus to the gallery named in his honour.
The Grieco collection includes Fattori, Lega, Signorini and Morandi.
Useful to know
