Santimamiñe
Explore Urdaibai’s prehistoric past through cave-entrance interpretation and a virtual presentation at San Mamés hermitage; the experience centres on understanding the site rather than exploring underground galleries.

Santimamiñe connects a long archaeological sequence with animal images made by prehistoric people. The interpretation helps separate two different stories: the cave as a place of repeated occupation and its decorated chambers as a record of Palaeolithic art. It is a focused cultural stop alongside the estuary’s outdoor landscapes.
What to look for
The prehistoric animal imagery includes bison, horses, deer and a bear.
The nearby San Mamés hermitage provides the virtual view of the decorated cave.
Useful to know
Confirm the current guided experience and meeting point before travelling to Kortezubi.
Allow space in the day for the full interpretation visit rather than a quick look at the cave mouth.
