Cathedral of Saint Sava
On the Vračar plateau, Saint Sava's monumental Orthodox church is a major Belgrade landmark. Come for its imposing domed form and the contrast between its pale exterior and mosaic interior.
Why go
The church honors Saint Sava, a central figure in Serbian Orthodox history, on a site associated with the burning of his remains. Its Greek-cross plan gathers the space beneath a central dome, while the white stone exterior gives the building a strong presence across Vračar. Allow time to see both outside and inside.
What to look for
A central dome rises above the church's Greek-cross plan.
White marble and granite define the monumental exterior.
Mosaics bring color and detail to the interior.
Useful to know
Walk around the exterior before entering so the building's scale and plan are easier to read.
Check the church's current visiting guidance if a service may affect access.
