Museum of African Art
In Senjak, the Museum of African Art focuses on art and culture from Africa, especially West African works. It offers a quieter, collection-led visit away from Belgrade's central museum cluster.
The museum grew from the collection of Zdravko Pečar, a Yugoslav diplomat who spent years in Africa. That origin gives the displays a distinct Belgrade connection while the masks and other works draw attention to the range of West African artistic traditions represented here. Come for the collection rather than a general survey of Serbian history.
What to look for
African masks are a prominent part of the collection.
Many works originated in Zdravko Pečar's collection, given to the City of Belgrade in 1974.
The museum sits in Senjak, outside the central museum cluster.
Useful to know
Plan the Senjak stop deliberately; it is separate from the museums around Republic Square.
Check the museum's official site for its current exhibitions before choosing how much time to allow.
