Why go
The municipality shows several faces of the estuary's north bank. Las Arenas and Zugazarte recall the homes of the industrial bourgeoisie, while Algorta's old port keeps a smaller fishing-village scale. Farther out, Punta Galea brings sea views, Aixerrota windmill and the old fort into the walk. Those contrasts make Getxo more than simply the far side of the transporter bridge.
What to look for
- Fishing houses along Algorta's Old Port.
- Zugazarte promenade and its historic mansions.
- Punta Galea promenade, Aixerrota windmill and Galea fort.
Useful to know
- Choose Las Arenas and Zugazarte for architecture, Algorta for the old port, or Punta Galea for open coast.
- Combine Las Arenas with Portugalete by crossing Puente Bizkaia.
