Why go
The reserve is best understood as a changing landscape, with tidal marsh at its centre and higher ground opening views across the coast. Mundaka marks the estuary mouth; inland Gernika gives its southern side a historic anchor. For a wider panorama, the official tourism guide names Ogoño, San Pedro de Atxarre and San Miguel de Ereñozar as viewpoints. The variety makes a focused route more rewarding than trying to see everything at once.
What to look for
- Tidal marsh and bird habitat along the Oka estuary.
- Coastal views from Ogoño or the San Pedro de Atxarre area.
- The shift from estuary flats to wooded hills and beaches.
Useful to know
- Choose a beach, estuary stop or named viewpoint before setting out; the reserve has no single entrance.
