Palazzo Marescotti Brazzetti
This palace on Via Barberia joins an early sixteenth-century shell to a much more theatrical Baroque interior. It suits architecture enthusiasts, though ordinary interior access is uncertain.
The palace shows how a senatorial home could be reshaped over generations. Its entrance staircases were part of Raniero Marescotti’s seventeenth-century remaking, and the main rooms gained frescoes and stucco from several artists. The contrast between the older building and later decoration is the point of the visit if entry is possible.
What to look for
The palace stands on Via Barberia, west of Piazza Maggiore.
Giovanni Giacomo Monti designed its scenic entrance staircases.
The main-floor rooms carry seventeenth-century frescoes and stucco.
Useful to know
Treat the facade as the dependable sight and confirm any public event or interior access before going.
Pair an exterior look with the nearby historic-center streets rather than allowing a long visit.
