Local rail travel in Bristol
Temple Meads is the main rail hub, while the Severn Beach Line reaches northern neighbourhoods including Montpelier, Redland and Clifton Down. Rail can be useful when those areas are your destination.
Why go
A local train can take you beyond the compact city centre without threading through every street by road. The Severn Beach Line is especially relevant for stops north of the centre, while Temple Meads connects the trip to longer-distance services. The station name matters: Clifton Down is a neighbourhood rail stop, not the Clifton Suspension Bridge itself.
Useful to know
Check the current timetable and stopping pattern before choosing a local train.
Match the station to your actual destination, then plan the final walk.
Allow interchange time at Temple Meads if arriving from another city.
