Bristol Temple Meads railway station
Temple Meads is Bristol's main rail hub and a place to notice railway history while travelling. The historic exterior and train shed are worth a look, but station access follows rail operations.
The station grew from Brunel's early railway terminus into a larger working interchange. Its old and later structures show that growth more clearly than a single monument could. If you arrive by train, take a moment to read the building before heading into the city.
What to look for
The historic station exterior marks Bristol's railway gateway.
The train shed shows later expansion of the working station.
Brunel's original terminus remains part of the wider station story.
Useful to know
Use the station as a transport stop first; check platform access before sightseeing.
Leave a little time between connections to view the exterior.
Check the route onward into the centre rather than assuming the harbour is immediately outside.
