Gates, Mosques and Markets of al-Muizz Street

Why go

This is a walking day for travelers drawn to medieval streets and religious architecture. The northern gate gives the route a clear starting point; al-Hakim Mosque and the Qalawun Complex show different eras along the same corridor. Pause at Khan el-Khalili for the market atmosphere, then end at Al-Azhar Mosque if visitor access permits. Al-Aqmar Mosque and Bayt al-Suhaymi are optional detours for closer study of a carved facade and a historic house. The route is best taken slowly on foot, with space for prayer activity and changing access at religious sites.
