Taxis in Cairo
A taxi can bridge Cairo's widely spaced sights, but agree on how the fare will be set before the ride and keep your destination clear.
Why go
Taxis are useful when a journey crosses the Nile or links central Cairo with a place beyond an easy walk. The older street-taxi practice of bargaining is a reason to settle the fare or confirm a working meter before setting off. Have the destination name and a nearby landmark ready if pronunciation causes confusion.
