Bab Zuwayla
At the southern end of al-Muizz Street, Bab Zuwayla is a surviving Fatimid gate with two towers and later minarets. It anchors a walk through the old city.
Why go
The gateway makes the medieval boundary of Cairo tangible rather than abstract. Its towers belong to the Fatimid fortifications, while the minarets above were added for the adjacent Mamluk mosque. The separate tower visit has a ticket, so distinguish a street-level stop from climbing before planning time.
