Rawda Island Nilometer
At the southern end of Rawda Island, this ninth-century Nilometer preserves a measuring column inside a stone-lined shaft. It makes Nile history unusually concrete.
Why go
The instrument linked flood height to irrigation planning and taxation, turning the river into a measurable public concern. Descending beside the shaft reveals its scale and inscribed walls. Pair it with Manial Palace on the island, while allowing for separate tickets and access conditions.
