Cycling Calgary's river pathways
Calgary's river and park pathways offer a ride away from much of the street grid. A longer outing can connect the Bow River, Fish Creek and Glenmore Reservoir.
Why go
For a shorter ride, follow the paths beside the Bow or Elbow rivers near downtown. For a more demanding loop, the route described through Fish Creek Provincial Park and Glenmore Reservoir returns by the Elbow River pathway. The change from downtown riverbanks to parks and reservoir makes this a full outing rather than a quick transfer.
Useful to know
Use the current City of Calgary pathway map to confirm connections before starting the Fish Creek and reservoir loop.
Set aside several hours for the longer loop and carry what you need for a ride through parkland.
Check path conditions after snow or poor weather, and lock the bicycle to a fixed rack or other solid object.
