Driving to Calgary
The Trans-Canada Highway approaches Calgary from Banff, while Highway 2 connects it with Edmonton. Drivers coming from the United States have a longer northbound approach from the border.
Why go
Plan the approach by where you start: take the Trans-Canada Highway east from Banff, or Highway 2 south from Edmonton. From the United States, the northbound corridor begins with Interstate 15 before continuing through Alberta. These routes serve different sides of Calgary, so decide which part of the city you need before choosing your final exit.
Useful to know
Check current road and weather conditions before the Banff or Edmonton drive.
For a cross-border drive, confirm the onward route through Alberta as well as border requirements.
Set the address with its Calgary quadrant suffix before leaving the approach highway.
