Drinks and drinking water

Iced coffee, sweet lemon tea and fresh coconut are common ways to pause between visits in Cambodia. Take more care with drinking water than with the choice of drink.

Why go

A roadside coffee or tea break offers a small glimpse of daily life beyond temples and museums. Cambodian iced coffee is often made with sweetened condensed milk; lemon tea is another familiar choice. Fresh coconut is also common, but the drink and its handling still deserve the same care as other food and water.

Useful to know

  • Choose sealed bottled or boiled water; check that a bottle’s seal is intact.
  • Avoid ice when you cannot confirm safe water and handling.
  • A coconut opened in front of you avoids added water, but clean utensils and handling still matter.
