Edmonton, Alberta
Edmonton follows the North Saskatchewan River and serves as Alberta’s northern urban hub, with a mix of provincial institutions, festivals and large attractions.
The river valley gives Edmonton a landscape distinct from Calgary’s foothills setting. Fort Edmonton Park interprets earlier settlement, while West Edmonton Mall offers a very different indoor outing. Its position at the north end of the Calgary–Edmonton corridor makes it a sensible base for exploring central Alberta rather than a quick stop between distant sights.
What to look for
The North Saskatchewan River runs through the city.
Fort Edmonton Park interprets regional history.
West Edmonton Mall is a major indoor destination.
Useful to know
Choose between a history-focused visit at Fort Edmonton Park and a separate indoor block at West Edmonton Mall.
Leave time for the river valley if the weather supports walking.
