Kootenay National Park
Kootenay runs along Highway 93 through the British Columbia Rockies, linking hot springs, canyons and mineral-rich ground. Its narrow road corridor makes contrasting short stops possible in one drive.
Marble Canyon exposes the park's faulted mountain rock, while the Paint Pots stain the earth red-orange with iron-rich water. The ochre there was used as pigment by First Nations. Radium Hot Springs adds another expression of the park's mineral waters near the southern entrance.
What to look for
Marble Canyon cuts through mountain rock.
Iron-rich water stains the Paint Pots red-orange.
Radium Hot Springs lies near the southern entrance.
Useful to know
Use Highway 93 to link several short stops, but leave walking time for Marble Canyon and the Paint Pots.
Check current access before counting on a hot springs visit.
