Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
On Vancouver Island's west coast, Pacific Rim has three separate regions: Long Beach, the Broken Group Islands and the West Coast Trail. Their access and effort differ sharply.
Long Beach gives the most approachable meeting of surf, bog and temperate rainforest near Tofino and Ucluelet. The Broken Group Islands offer a boat-based trip through Barkley Sound, while the West Coast Trail is a much more demanding coastal journey. Pacific rain and summer fog help shape the forests and the experience.
What to look for
Long Beach faces the exposed Pacific shoreline.
Rainforest and bog lie near the Long Beach area.
The Broken Group Islands sit among Barkley Sound’s channels.
Useful to know
Choose one of the three regions as the focus; they are separate trips, not a single continuous walk.
For the Broken Group Islands, arrange boat travel and carry the water you need.
