Driving into Cape Town
Three main roads give road arrivals a clear orientation: the N1 approaches from the northeast, the N2 from the east, and the N7 from the north.
Why go
The route into Cape Town depends on where your trip begins. The N1 connects the city with Paarl and inland South Africa; the N2 is the approach from the Garden Route and Eastern Cape; and the N7 leads down the West Coast. Knowing these corridors helps you choose an arrival route before navigating city streets.
Useful to know
Use the N1 for an approach from Paarl or Johannesburg and the N2 from the Garden Route.
Use the N7 for an approach from the West Coast or Namibia.
Check current road conditions and local route advice before a long drive, particularly if arriving after dark.
