Getting around Cape Town

The central City Bowl can work on foot, but Cape Town’s beaches and peninsula sights are spread far apart. Plan transport between areas before setting out.

Why go

Walking is useful for exploring a compact area, such as the City Bowl or the beachfront at Camps Bay. It cannot connect every stop in a wider Cape Town day: the Atlantic coast, False Bay and the peninsula call for separate journeys. Decide which area you want to explore on foot, then arrange the longer transfer.

Useful to know

  • Group nearby stops into one walk; plan a separate ride when moving between the City Bowl, beaches and peninsula.
  • If staying near a beach such as Camps Bay, check the distance to the other places you want to visit before relying on walking.
