Choosing Between Capri’s Coast, Towns and Hills
Capri’s sights divide between sea caves, town architecture and elevated landscapes. Choose a main setting before adding stops: the Blue Grotto, central Capri and Anacapri offer very different experiences.
The Blue Grotto centres on light and water, while Santo Stefano and the Certosa di San Giacomo explain the built history of Capri town. Around Anacapri, Villa San Michele and Monte Solaro connect architecture with the island’s steep terrain. These contrasts help narrow a sightseeing day before arranging transport.
What to look for
San Michele in Anacapri has a tiled floor depicting Adam and Eve’s expulsion from Paradise.
Villa Jovis preserves the terraces and water-storage engineering of a Roman imperial residence.
Useful to know
Treat the Blue Grotto as a sea-dependent choice; check conditions before travelling to its entrance.
Group Anacapri’s churches and villas together; allow separately for the climb or chairlift to Monte Solaro.
