Understanding Capri’s Faraglioni
The Faraglioni are sea stacks shaped by coastal erosion. Their separate names help distinguish the rocks within Capri’s familiar silhouette, rather than treating the group as a single formation.
The Italian word faraglioni describes coastal stacks, so it is a geological term as well as Capri’s landmark name. Here the group comprises Stella, Mezzo and Scopolo. Stella remains attached to the island, while the others stand offshore. Recognising that sequence makes shore and boat views easier to compare and draws attention to the differing relationships between rock, coastline and water.
